Servicing Explained

A motor vehicle service is a procedure carried out at a set time interval or after the vehicle has traveled a certain distance designed to maintain the health of a vehicle.

The service is designed to carry out basic but essential replacement of certain parts and fluids to preserve the function of the vehicle.

Services are advised at different intervals  depending on the age, mileage and make and model of the vehicle.

Whilst servicing a vehicle cannot guarantee the health of such parts as the  motor, it can prolong the life of the vehicle. Some modern vehicles have

onboard computer which display when the next service is required.

Your vehicle may display vehicle warning light. Click here to see a basic overview of them.

Services are not to be confused with repairs and will not guarantee the life of, or ensure, the vehicle runs as required.

The minimum level of service usually comprises of replacement of the oil and air filters as well as the draining and replacement of the oil for new. More in-depth services are also available
and occasionally advised to maintain the health of the engine.

Your mechanic should stamp and complete the service book to maintain a record of what work was carried out and when. A complete service log can add value to the resale value of the vehicle.
